Career options after Class 12 PCM

Most of the Indian parents and students have a huge misconception that there are very less career options available for Class 12 passed non-medical students. Some of them consider that there is no other good career option except engineering for a PCM student. But this is not the fact. There are many other career options available for a Class 12 passed students. Not only this, the jobs available in these fields are highly paid and reputed.

                                

Here are some of the career options available after Class 12 PCM.

1. Engineering

It is most commonly selected career option after class 12 PCM. This is first choice of every    Non-Medical Science students. Most students opt for PCM to just get into field of engineering. There are numerous courses and job options available for engineering students. 

Eligibility- Candidate must have passed 10+2 or any other equivalent exam with at least 50% score.

Time Required- It requires 4 years, usually consisting of 8 semesters of 6 months each.

Admission Procedure- Various engineering entrance tests like JEE Advanced, JEE Main, BITSAT, VITEEE, WBJEE are conducted for admission in B.Tech and B.E.courses in top engineering colleges of the country.

Courses Available- There are many courses available in B.Tech and B.E.

1. B. Tech./ B.E. in Computer Science

2. B. Tech./ B.E. in Electronics and Communication

3. B. Tech./ B.E. in Mechanical Engineering

4. B. Tech./ B.E. in Civil Engineering

7. B. Tech./ B.E. in  Chemical Engineering

Out of these Bachelor of Technology/ Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science is usually preferred  by students. Some other fields of specialization in engineering are Petroleum, Automobile, Biotechnology, Biochemical, Aerospace, Textile, Rubber, etc.

2.Architecture

Building and renovation of apartments, skyscrapers, wonder building of the world, commercial complexes, hotels, malls and restaurants requires a lot of planning & designing . This planning and designing is a part done by an Architect.

Eligibility- Candidate must have passed 10+2 or any other equivalent exam with at least 50% score.

Time Required- It requires 5 years, usually 10 semesters of 6 months each.

Admission Procedure- There are two main exams conducted for admission in B. Arch. courses. These are JEE Main & NATA.

3. Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Science is usually opted by one who want to grow his/her knowledge and specialize themselves in particular field related to science. It is a course that can be pursued as a full-time or a part-time course.

Eligibility- Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam in Science Stream.

Time Required- 3 years.

Admission Procedure- Direct admissions are available on the basis of Class 12 score. Every institute has its minimum cutoff marks that must be obtained in Class 12 for qualifying admission.

Opportunities in Future- B.Sc. graduates can work as lecturers or professors, teachers, researchers, laboratory assistants,etc.

4. Merchant Navy

Merchant Navy helps a nation by helping in international trade by transporting containers and commercial items throughout the world by the means of water transport. If one have ability to live on a ship for a long period of time, then this job can be proved very rewarding to you. It is a highly paid and reputed job.

Eligibility- Candidate must have qualified 10+2 or equivalent examination with subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with at least 60% marks. Also he/she must be unmarried and a citizen of India. Also he/she must have normal vision and should not require glasses of power more or less than +/- 2.5 D for proper vision.

Time Required- 4 years for marine engineering and 6 to 12 months for training.

Admission Procedure- Exams such as IMU CET, JEE Advanced, MERI Entrance Exam and TMI SAT are conducted for admission in marine engineering. Then an All India Merchant Navy Entrance Test is conducted after completion of graduation.

Job Opportunities- You may be appointed as ETO, Deck officer or an Engineer in Merchant Navy.

5. National Defense Academy

If you are willing to serve the nation and want to join Indian Army, Indian Navy or Indian Air Force you must get into NDA.

Eligibility- Candidate must be a male and should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam from recognized board. He must be a citizen of India or subject of Bhutan/Nepal or a Tibetian refugee came to India before 1 January 1962. He should be unmarried and have age between 16.5 and 19.5 years.

Admission Process- It is a two stage selection process. At first stage an written exam is conducted. Candidates are selected on basis of this exam for SSB interview. 

Opportunities in Future- Once training is completed candidates are appointed as Lieutenant in Army, Sub Lieutenant in Navy and Flying Officer in Air Force.

6. Aviation

If you love to fly around the world or have good management skills, then you must select this option as your career.

Eligibility- Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with minimum 50%. 

Admission Procedure- Students have to qualify in the entrance exams and interview round conducted by different institutes to pursue a course in aviation.

Job Opportunities- One may work as Commercial Pilot, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Aircraft Technician, Air Traffic Controller in various domestic and International airports.

7. Research Field

If you want to gain plenty of knowledge on a particular topic and want find new things about that topic then you must get into research field.

Eligibility- Candidate must be 10+2 or equivalent exam qualified from a reputed board and must have scored at least 55%.

Time Required- 4 years.

Admission Procedure- Exams such as KYPY are conducted for admission in the most reputed research institutes of the country. This is a two stage test. First stage is an online test and second stage is an interview round.

Important*- One who have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam from a reputed board with minimum 55% can also opt undergraduate courses available in Commerce & Humanities stream.
